our-staffManagement at Mentor Freight Services and staff members have extensive experience in the shipping industry, they provide valuable technical support with either import or export traffic.

Being highly skilled in the functions they perform and able to diversify their skills, our staff who work closely with our clients fulfilling our clientele requirements and expectations in all areas.

All staff participate in ongoing training courses, to ensure up to date knowledge with current procedures and policies to meet their responsibilities within the freighting industry.

Most of the training is supported by SAAFF, the South African Association of Freight Forwarders, and training is regarded as an ongoing process, allowing us to concentrate on our top priority: Service Excellence.

Our Systems

our-systemsMentor Freight Services endeavours to be up to date with all IT matters. We constantly update and upgrade our hardware, software and communications systems. We have 2 main software operating systems, one is supplied by Ship Shape, and covers both air & ocean freighting and the second being a warehouse bar coding operating system. The first system is a customs approved program which allows for the following:

  • Electronic data interface (EDI) with customs and excise offices for all customs declarations, fully compliant, accredited & licensed.
  • Advanced and fast processing of all shipping and customs documentation.
  • Records of customs and excise bonded cargo aquitals.
  • Day to day updates on air departures & arrivals and ocean sailings, stack schedules & arrivals. Vast database and information from container specifications, conversions, client customs registration numbers to product and tariff classifications, as well as individual clientelle information.
  • General and bonded warehouse stock locations and control.
  • Status tracking and tracing of shipment & POD™S
  • Daily and weekly rate of exchange, tariff and industry updates.
  • Import and export quotations.
  • Final unit costing of imported goods.
  • Miscellaneous documents, eg. packing lists, bank forms, certificate of origins, declarations, and various reports.
  • Possible client Internet link up.
  • ‘All software systems are flexible and continually improved.

The second system, the warehouse programme allows:

  • Receive and dispatch cargo via accurate bar coding control
  • Pick cargo for packing of containers
  • Pick cargo for the dispatch of air freight
  • Track and trace cargo from receipt to dispatch
  • Allow specialised packing of cargo
  • Generate client inventory list
  • Accurate, fast streamline bar coding cargo

Our Premises

our-premisesOur premises which is situated 6Km away from O.R. Tambo International Airport, is ideally sized and structured for both air & ocean freight cargo.

The premises offer 208 off floor pallet positions, approximately 255 CBM, on the racking system. This is in addition to the warehouse floor space.

Our premises are protected by inferred security beams and internal close circuit cameras. All this allows for controlled processes such as:

  • Receiving and dispatching of cargo.
  • Short term storage and allocation of in transit cargo.
  • Packing, checking, weighing and labeling of cargo.
  • Various examinations can be carried out by institutions such as inspectorate, veritas, SGS, customs and excise as well as clients.
  • Loading of ocean freight containers.
  • Near proximity depots and the airport.
  • The warehouse is supplied with forklifts, racking stackers, trolley jacks and all necessary cargo handling and packing equipment.
  • Part 108 compliancy allowing cargo being handled through Mentor Freight Services becoming known cargo.

Our Fleet

our-fleetMentor Freight Services currently operates its own clearly marked fleet of light and heavy duty vehicles.

These well maintained vehicles allow Mentor Freight Services to be flexible, without having to rely on third party transporters, ensuring better security and control of our clients cargo.
